Diversity, Digital Finance, and Organizational Resilience: Lessons from Nigeria’s Changing Labour Economy

Abstract

Migration, workforce diversity, digital transformation, and organizational sustainability are increasingly connected in emerging economies. As workers move across regions, borders, and sectors, organizations are becoming more ethnically, culturally, and digitally complex. This article examines how migration-driven workforce diversity and digital inclusion shape organizational sustainability, using Nigeria as an anchor case within a wider global context. Drawing on a qualitative desk-based review of migration literature, diversity management theory, organizational sustainability research, and selected studies on digital finance and artificial intelligence, the article argues that workforce mobility can strengthen organizations by expanding talent pools, improving innovation, increasing market reach, and supporting resilience. However, these benefits depend on inclusive governance. In contexts where recruitment, promotion, financial access, and digital systems are shaped by exclusion, diversity may reproduce inequality rather than reduce it. The article contributes to global debates by showing that organizational sustainability in emerging economies is no longer only a matter of profitability or institutional survival. It also depends on how organizations manage ethnic diversity, migrant inclusion, digital access, financial participation, and trust. The paper proposes an integrated framework linking workforce mobility, diversity governance, digital inclusion, and sustainable organizational performance.
